The match-up between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab should be an interesting one. These 2 teams are amongst the dark horses of the tournament this year. Though their teams may not be the strongest on paper, but their spirit remains unmatched. Plus, the IPL on numerous occasions has taught us that it is not what the team on paper that matters. It is all about how they perform on the green field out there.
SRH has been a surprise this season. Though the ownership and name of the team has changed, the bunch of players are still the same as the ones in Deccan Chargers. Having performed so terribly last season, their performances this season have been a breath of fresh air. Though the batting still looks a bit shaky, the same cant be said for the other half of the game. Their bowling and fielding has been a treat to watch. Dale Steyn needs no introduction regarding his bowling prowess. Ishanth Sharma has regained his mojo from his younger days. Amit Mishra is ripping the ball like never before, and Thisara Perera has also been among the wickets.
The batting though, has failed. Only a few batsmen like Cameron White and Thisara Perera have performed well in bits and pieces. They have made heavy weather of many chases which should have been achieved rather easily. Nevertheless, they are winning matches, and that’s what matters the most at the end of the day. The reason for their success this season can be their team spirit and the way they have gelled together as a squad this time round.
KXIP have been a team that has underperformed. They too have played well in patches but haven’t always got the results to go their way. Gilchrist is probably playing a season too many as he has failed to perform miserably. Big guns David Hussey and Azhar Mahmood have also not had much of an impact with the bat. The main problem for the KXIP is the local talent. They probably have the weakest local players in this tournament and that itself is a negative effect as at least 7 of the playing 11 have to be Indian.
Having said this though, the KXIP have played in and maintained good spirits as always. Mahmood has been bowling well along with Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla. Awana too, has been good in bursts. All the KXIP can hope for now is that they keep their morale high and try to improve upon the glitches in their display. If they do that, then victories are bound to come sooner or later. Anyways, it doesn’t take long for a shift in fortunes in this beloved tournament of ours.
Expect SRH to win tomorrow. It might not be the easiest of wins, as KXIP are known fighters. However, SRH are in home conditions and the momentum and confidence is with them after that unexpected victory against PWI a few days back. Hoping for a good competitive match!
