If the World’s Greatest plans a move
He has been in every possible sense, a menace to every team’s defence he has played against. Whether he is playing for his club FC Barcelona or for his National side, Argentina, he has never allowed the opponents to rest or relax on the field even for a single second. He has broken records and made his own one after the other, whether it was in terms of goals in a season or winning the most prestigious FIFA Ballon d’Or Award four times in a row.
The ever magical and mesmerizing Lionel Messi has shown the world of football what a real threat one player can be to the whole team he plays against. With his exceptional dribbling skills, spot on accuracy in finishing in 1vs1 situations, emphatic pace with which he runs past defenders and scoring from any possible range makes him a complete player at such a young age.
Since his arrival at FC Barcelona’s youth academy he has been turning some serious headway and making one benchmark after another for people teams and managers top know that an unstoppable threat looms their way. Messi till date has scored 313 goals in 373 appearances for FC Barcelona and has even made The Guinness Book of World Record by scoring 91 goals in one season. While his performance for his club has been exceptionally well, his services to his national side has been equally well, by scoring 35 goals in 82 appearances, in which many goals have been crucial winners for the team.
Having done so much for his club over the years, what if Messi has a change of heart and plans to play in any other league for a different team for the rest of his career or for some part of it. Will it change anything if he does? What if the Best Player in the world makes a move from Spanish Giants FC Barcelona to English Champions Manchester United? Will it make a difference? Lets have look at all the possible situations.
Rise of David’s Manchester United:
After the departure of Manchester United’s greatest manager Sir Alex Ferguson, things at the club have been a little down lately. With the club not fairing so well in the Pre Season and heading into its first competitive match, The FA Community Shield just a few days away, fans all over the world aren’t expecting much from the squad or the manager.
Think about a transfer that brings Lionel Messi and Manchester United together. If such kind of a situation occurs, Manchester United will be on a roll, season after season and will definitely dominate not only England but the whole of Europe. With Messi taking either of the flanks for the team, all attacks will have the width, the pace and the combination of skilled dribbling and creating chances the club lacked since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
It may also be that because of such a transfer, club’s biggest transfer problem, Wayne Rooney may also decide to extend his contract. With the combination of Rooney, RVP and Messi, United will definitely become a force to be reckoned with and can regain the lost counter attacking maneuvers it had once. Even though it is agreed that currently what United requires is an experienced Central Midfielder and Centre Back, but the arrival of Messi can not only strengthen the offensive side of the unit, but even the defensive. The running and falling back tendency of Messi, not only makes him a player of great talent at the front, but a holding defensive Winger when the opponents are on the counter attack so he can rush with the ball and break the last line of defence when required.
Little do people know that Messi is not only a Winger and a Striker but can play the position of a Centre Attacking Midfielder as well. In the early stages of his career and for the Youth Academy of Barcelona, Messi started as an Attacking Midfielder and has played the same position for Argentina when the manger wanted him to. Think about all the orchestration of attacks Messi can conduct if he plays at the hub of midfield for Manchester United. Taking an all time Attacking Midfield position for the team, Messi can even help curb the Midfield vows for the team.
Can You Believe it?
There was a rumour that new club manager David Moyes has even put up a deal to get Lionel Messi from Barcelona to United if the deal with Ronaldo doesn’t fall through.
Impact on the EPL:
With Messi’s arrival in the EPL, teams in the league wil have no chance to with stand against the speed and power of the Argentinean. The one man army, Messi can take up any place in the field, can run past as many players who will stand in his way and score a goal all by himself if he has to.
Arsenal and Arsene Wenger will be the most disappointed lot when Messi will play his League matches against them. Having faced him already in the UEFA Champions League innumerable times and having faced worst defeats because of the Argentinean, the manager will have to keep in mind all sorts of defensive tactics required to stop the player.
Every team in the League will adapt to a more defensive formation and even have man marking on Messi to make sure the World Player of the year doesn’t run past them and end the ball in the back of the net time and again.
Impact on the La Liga:
Barcelona without Messi will be like a Fish without Water.
How many times have you noticed when in the FIFA Manager Mode you buy Messi from FC Barcelona and the team starts ending up in the third or fourth spot of the league. Without Lionel Messi in FC Barcelona and in the La Liga, things will change and they will change drastically.
Real Madrid, The Spanish Giants having won so many laurels one after another can have a hold of their winning streak once again with no other team coming in their way in dominating Spain. With the departure of Lionel Messi, Ronaldo will become the most menacing player in the league and will even give him an upper hand during the El Classico all year long.
The No. 10 jersey will no longer be the player who scored 91 goals in one season and this fact will definitely hit the game play of the team for quite some time. Even though the club will still have known faces like Xavi, Iniesta, Sanchez, Neymar etc. The club will still be out of attacking options from the flanks or a sure shot goal situation when the time will beckon for one.
Teams in La Liga will be able to play an even more offensive game when they will play against FC Barcelona with no Messi playing on their end. Each and every team in the league plays a rather defensive formation or has a juggernaut approach when they play against FC Barcelona as they fear the Argentinean Winger, who takes no time in cutting past defenders and scoring at every opportunity. With no Messi on the Barcelona team sheet, teams will try and keep an even more effective and offensive approach.
Can You Believe it?
Rumour has it that Messi was feeling a little odd and was unsettled since the arrival of Brazilian Winger Neymar and wasn’t in the right frame of mind.
As we are discussing every positive and negative point of the transfer, why leave the pint of the transfer budget or transfer sum behind?
It can be said without doubt that IF Messi makes a move from Barcelona he will be the most expensive transfer in the history of the sport. When Real Madrid can pay £200 million for the Welshman Gareth Bale, then think about World’s Best Player, Lionel Messi. What will be the sum that a club has to pay Barcelona for Messi’s services and then the amount that has to be paid to the Argentinean on a weekly basis?
"It makes a joke of the financial fair play regulations. I find it amazing that in the year the regulations come in, world football has gone completely crazy. You wonder what kind of impact and effect financial fair play has on the football world. It looks like it has made everybody worse than before," were the words stated by Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger when asked about the Gareth Bale transfer link with Real Madrid. I am sure he won’t have anything to say if the transfer rumour of Messi hits the market.
Even though this transfer is not happening any time soon, its just interesting to think about the possibility of what the situation will be IF Lionel Messi ever decides to move to Manchester United. The possibility of the two Biggest M’s in Football World joining hands to become one unstoppable force.
